Bringing opera to life
for a modern audience

Brand Transformation

Opéra de Montréal

Founded in 1980, the Opéra de Montréal is a lyric company that presents memorable and accessible productions, deeply rooted in Montreal’s cultural life.

For several years now, we have been working with the Opéra de Montréal on a profound transformation—one that goes beyond simply filling seats to redefining what opera means for today’s society. Together, we have reimagined how the institution communicates with and engages its audience, shifting from a model of one-off campaigns to a more holistic and relationship-based approach. This collaboration seeks to reposition opera within the contemporary cultural landscape: no longer as an art form reserved for an elite, but as a vibrant, accessible experience rooted in Montreal’s diversity. The goal is to establish opera not only as a musical performance, but as a space for connection, dialogue, and shared emotion.

Montréal is an ideal breeding ground for the lyric art form, combining its cultural richness with the Opéra de Montréal's own signature.

For the 2023-2024 season, we have invited non-comedians to revisit the history of period opera from their own experience, bringing a singular truth to the world of opera.

“From the very beginning, this collaboration has been built on trust, sincerity, and the joy of creating together—which, for us, is the key to meaningful and fruitful work.”

Joshua Lessard's copywriting was featured in this edition.

We drew a parallel between La Traviata and the fate of a modern-day woman living with OnlyFans, torn between the desire for love and social judgment.

La Reine Garçon is about the quest for identity of a modern-day person, confronted with social norms and the desire to assert herself.

Portrait of Joshua Lessard, whose long-standing collaboration feeds and enlightens our projects.

Faced with the challenge of continually engaging its audience and attracting a new generation of spectators, we relied on human storytelling. Rather than relying on classic figures, we have highlighted contemporary protagonists whose realities echo the plots of the great works. This approach makes these timeless tales more accessible, establishing a direct link with today's audiences.

An eclectic team in which everyone shone in their own role.

For the 2024-2025 season, we continued our exploration with non-actors, anchoring the opera in contemporary reality through a documentary approach, experienced not in the studio but in their homes, at the heart of their story.

Over the seasons, our support has enabled Opéra de Montréal to establish a more accessible, engaging and relevant voice. By transforming the way opera is told and perceived, this approach has helped to broaden its audience and strengthen its place in Montreal culture.

They even wrote the titles of the posters themselves, adding a touch of truth.

Between Hamlet's torments and those of Vincent, a young man from Montreal, the same questions of identity and truth resonate.

This edition would not have been possible without the singular talent of Matt Charland.

The stories of the past continue to speak to the present.

For the 2025-2026 season, we wanted each opera to resonate with the other, as a whole. It's a vision we've shaped in collaboration with Studio Caravane.

Clowns is an original work born in Montreal, combining contemporary creation and local identity.

For the 2026 season, we have affirmed opera as what it fundamentally is: a total art form, at the crossroads of disciplines, eras and technologies. The exploration of artificial intelligence and new digital languages is a natural extension of its expressive power.

Presented at the Société des arts technologiques de Montréal, the season launch took the form of an immersive experience where innovation, creation and storytelling meet. By fusing voice, image, data and interactive devices, we opened up new ways of experiencing opera, true to its essence, but resolutely turned towards the future.
